Reading!

If you are a follower of my blog, then you know that my lovely 4 year old is a speller. Well lately his newest obsession is reading!!! Yes, I am a former teacher, but I DO NOT teach him how to read!! I don't even read to him...yup bad mom :) Mr.E reads to him at night since I'm cluster feeding Flower Power;) He doesn't teach him either. Little Lion is just a phonics kid! He sounds out words and is smart enough to associate it with a word he's heard before. He's been reading easy words for the past couple of months, but lately he's been amazing us with what he reads. I try not to brag about it....ok I brag a little ;) Here is a little video of him reading Showoff which is a music channel. On it anyone can text in a message and they post it. LL is reading all the messages. Then I asked him who is singing the song and he reads the artist, title, album, and year :)


Today when I picked him up at school, his teacher commented to me she was amazed at his reading.
Me: Yes I know he can read, but he doesn't do it on command usually.
Teacher: I know kids "read" what they memorize, but he doesn't. He actually reads!! Today he brings over the bug display (a cute bug with a bunch of real bugs (dead) in bubbles with their name on it). LL points to one and reads Solitary Wasp to me!!!
Me: I know, crazy, right! He sounds out the words. Solitary Wasp is phonically correct.
Teacher: I'm still amazed! He's 4!

I'm proud of my little literary kid! I hope he continues enjoying reading!
